Help with Dry, Chapped Lips

Chapped lips can be the result of a number of factors. The most common are changes in season, weather or humidity, allergic reactions or even medications that you are taking. If you believe that your chapped lips are the result of an allergy or a medication you are on, please contact your doctor. For those of you who suspect your chapped lips are the result of the change in weather, here are a few tips that should help heal your dry lips.

1. Drink more than the recommended 8 glasses of water a day. Chapped lips can be caused from dehydration, so if you up your intake of water, it should help to hydrate your lips.

2. Avoid caffeine, alcohol and other any other items which cause skin to become dehydrated.

3. Moisturize your lips with a balm that contains beeswax, cocoa butter, shea butter or other plant-based waxes. These ingredients absorb well into lips and work hard to rehydrate your lips. Be sure to avoid lip treatments with flavor, because licking your lips only prolongs chapped lips.

4. Use sunscreen and a lip balm before you go outside. The SPF will protect your lips from the sun, while the lip balm will protect your lips from the wind and cold air which can be damaging. 5. Always consult your physician for treatments, allergies, and other doctor related concerns.
